Hello Pennsylvania CRNA's
Greetings to all Pennsylvania CRNA's. April's zoomed on by, and we're halfway through May already. The PANA Spring extravaganza in Hershey was excellent this year. Over 450 CRNA's attended, our best turnout ever. I hope everyone else in attendance took advantage of the HUGE opportunity for networking as I did. These PANA symposia provide the most concentrated collection of focused, intensely interested CRNA's you'll find anywhere in the US of A, short of the AANA Annual Conference. The weekend started off a little wet on the golf course, as 63 PANA loyalists came out for the annual PANA Golf Outing. A steady rain tried to dampen the enthusiasm, but by the back 9, the sun was out, warming everyone's disposition. Or was that the beverage? Sunday at the conference, the PANA board went above and beyond when they recognized my services with regards to the PANA website. We all have the need to share our energy and expertice with the world around us. I happen to find an aptitude with web-programming. If you've got a talent (no need for ballroom dancers at this time!) you'd like to share with the PANA give me a holler. This organization needs the support and help of ALL it's members.

Spring Meeting Resources on www.pana.org

We've collected several of the Powerpoint presentations from this years PANA Symposium. Past symposia presentations are also available online. Titles include discussion of new muscle relaxant reversals, as well as incite on starting a new CRNA owned business. Go to the Online resource page to see what's available. This is a GREAT resource for new and upcoming research and information. All files are saved as Adobe PDF files for easy and rapid download.

AANA needs All PA CRNA's to Contact Their US Representative TODAY!

Brian Hilton Kelley the PAC Director & Political Affairs Manager from the AANA has sent notice to Pennsylvania CRNA's to urge them to contact their members of the House and Senate about Medicare payment equity in anesthesia education. The message: Do not cosponsor or support HR 5246! HR 5246 would provide certain anesthesiologists twice the Medicare reimbursement for cases involving anesthesiology residents than for cases involving student nurse anesthetists. He also goes on to say that each of your CRNA members should have received a custom email just for them last week. The custom personalized CRNAdvocate link in each CRNAs’ email is for the email’s original addressee alone. It will not work properly for individuals other than the person to whom it was addressed. If a CRNA receives this email message from someone other than the AANA Office of Federal Government Affairs, please access the CRNAdvocacy system at www.aana.com:

It’s important to take action TODAY!

It's Not Too Late to Volunteer and Run for a PANA Office!

All right friends, it's time for everyone to seriously think about running for a PANA office. For those who have never seen the PANA Board in action, I suggest you attend the next meeting to see just what goes on. I think you'll find it both stimulating and satisfying. This organization has made a wonderful contribution to the profession of nurse anesthesia both in Pennsylvania, and nationally. It's time everyone made the effort to get involved. Logon to the Members Section of www.pana.org, and follow the link to complete the willingness to serve form. Information is available on the web form relating to requirements for each position. If you don't remember your password, use the "Forgotten Your Password" link to have it emailed to you. If you've received this newsletter, we have your correct email address! If you are totally web phobic and your son, daughter or significant other is reading you this, just call (610-841-4910) or Email Julie Antidormi, CRNA (jules1@ptd.net) Nominating Committee Chair, and tell her your interested in running.

On the Side...

As some of you may or may not know about the National Provider Identifier (NIP) that will be required by all providers beginning May 23, 2007. If you have not, let me give you a brief summery; the NIP is part of the HIPPA Administrative Simplification Act and its final rule was published in the Federal Register on January 23, 2004. It is being administered by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The concept is for the NPI to replace various provider numbers, physician UPIN numbers, tax ID numbers and group numbers, among others, used for HIPPA transactions. The PANA has found out that some state plans are beginning to require that the NIP be used on reimbursement applications before the federal requirement of May 23, 2007.

If you have not applied for a number – you must do so. You can apply for a number at this website:

Hey!!! Anyone out there actually take advantage of this black and white poster? Let me know. It's not too late to use this resource to advertise your profession. How much time could it take?
